The International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa, the only ‘A’ grade international film festival of the Government of India to be held from November 20 to 28 is all set to showcase Manipuri Cinema in honour of its golden jubilee year.
The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) stated in a release that the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, managing director Ravinder Bhakar on November 8 had confirmed that the 53rd IFFI will feature a special section on Manipur Cinema in honour of its golden jubilee.

It mentioned that every year, IFFI showcases a collage of the best of contemporary and classical films from around the globe. The festival welcomes an array of world renowned filmmakers, actors, technicians, critics, academicians and enthusiasts to celebrate Cinema and the Art of Filmmaking through its Presentations, Master Classes and Panel Discussions, and Co-production Seminars, it stated.
With the spirit to celebrate the art of cinema, the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, government of India aims at making the IFFI-53 a breathtaking experience for the Indian and International film fraternity, the budding filmmakers and cinema lovers across the globe, it informed.

“The IFFI special Golden Jubilee Manipuri Cinema package consist of five feature films and five non- feature films, including landmark Manipuri films like ‘Matamgee Manipur’, SN Chand Sajati’s ‘Brojendragee Luhongba’, Aribam Syam Sharma’s ‘Ishanou’, Gautam Oinam’s ‘Phijigi Mani’, and Haobam Paban Kumar’s ‘Loktak Leirembi’.
Among the non-features to be screened at the prestigious international film festival are Oken Amakcham’s ‘Ratan Thiyam: The Man of Theatre’, Ningthouja Lancha’s ‘Ilisa Amagi Mahao’, Borun Thokchom’s ‘The Silent Poet’, Romi Meitei’s ‘The Tainted Mirror’ and Ashok Veilou’s ‘Look at the Sky’,” it mentioned.
The ministry of Information and Broadcasting would host all the participating film directors as its guest, while MSFDS would sponsor their travels to Goa and back, it added.
