Anāl Naga feature film ‘Pakanpa-1’ was released on Friday at Lamphoupasna Village Community Hall in Chandel district amid much fanfare and support from the Anal Naga community.
Directed by Khumlo Moses and produced by Jimhring Anal under Phetha Production House, the film narrates the story of the Pakan community, the Anal Naga community here, of the old, of how they lived, of the wars and clashes they had with their enemies and how they eventually became Christians.
Shot over a period of two-three months, Pakanpa-1 was shot extensively in the villages of Leihou, Lamphoupasna and Beru Anthi, some of the oldest villages under Chandel district.
With an ensemble cast mainly from Leihou and Lamphoupasna villages, the film is a first for all the casts including the director.
Released by Naga Hoho vice president Rd David Boyes and an entrepreneur, he encouraged the initiative stating that one has to start somewhere to move ahead in life. He also called for learning from one’s mistakes to improve and grow in life.
Speaking at the releasing event, Khumlo Moses, a first-time direction and a businessman, said the motive of the film was to narrate some stories about the Pakan community though not in its entirety but of some places and people.
“We wanted to make a documentary of the Pakan community but we thought a film would be more entertaining. And that is how we make it into a film,” Moses said.
An ex-serviceman and not trained in film making, Moses said it was a sincere effort to provide entertainment through film and storytelling.
