Gram Vikas, RSS, Thoubal Zilla president and social worker Khundrakpam Akoisana on Sunday urged farmers in the state to shift to organic farming and bring about an ‘organic revolution’ in the state.
He was speaking as the president at a farmers’ training programme that was held as part of the month-long ‘Eigi Iramdam Lu Nalhalsi, Eigi Lambi Lu Nalhansi’ (let us keep our place and land clean) campaign organised by United Youth Club (UYC) at Khangabok in Thoubal district.
It was organised as part of the said month-long campaign in celebration of the 126th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot at the premise of UYC.
He said that more than 80 per cent of the occupation of India is related to farming and agriculture. He stressed on the need to adopt the scientific method of organic farming.
Akoisana commended the UYC for the month-long cleanliness initiative as part of the 126th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot.
Agriculture department, government of Manipur APO Kh Nimaichand and the resource persons of the programme Agriculture department OSD Thongam Jayprakash and ICM director K Joichandra elaborated on the various procedures to prevent various different types of crop diseases and infestations.
As part of the occasion, sprayer pumps were handed over to the more than 80 farmers who attended the programme.
