The Mizoram government has issued a new set of COVID-19 guidelines to be enforced in the state from January 8 to January 31 amid the rapidly increasing Coronavirus cases and the new variant of concern ‘Omicron’.
On Friday, state chief secretary and chairman of State Executive Committee, State Disaster Management Authority Renu Sharma notified that schools and hostels for students of class I to IX and class XI will remain closed from Saturday, January 8. Classes will continue to be conducted in the online mode, it stated.
However, schools and hostels are permitted to be opened as per the instruction issued by the School Education Department, for students of Class X and XII, who will be appearing for board examinations, with strict observance of COVID Appropriate Behaviour, the notification read.
Worship services only during day time are permitted with a maximum 50 per cent seating capacity of the venue .
Funeral services and weddings are permitted with a maximum 50 per cent seating capacity of the venue or not more than 50 persons (whichever is less), with the condition that no refreshments are prepared and served, the notification added.
Sports competition, tournament, etc. (indoor & outdoor) are permitted without spectators, with maximum 50 per cent seating capacity of the venue or not more than 50 persons (whichever is less).
Restaurants are permitted with a maximum 50 per cent seating capacity of the venue. Arrangement should be made by the owners to avoid sharing cups by providing separate disposable/ normal cups or packaged drinking water for each individual.The owners should regularly sanitise their tables and chairs and shall be responsible for cleanliness of their premises, it further stated.
Picnic spots, movie theatres, parks, swimming pools, zoos, gyms, beauty parlours and spas will remain closed during the period, it added.
