The All Meghalaya Poultry Supplier and Retailer Association (AMPSRA) on Thursday said there is no harm in the consumption of chicken or eggs.

This assurance from the AMPSRA came following viral pictures alleging that consuming chicken or eggs is harmful to humans due to bird flu.

Speaking to media persons, president of AMPSRA, Wanshai Kharshandi alleged that on June 15, some individuals circulated old pictures of infected chicken and claimed that these pictures were of recent times and from Meghalaya.

“In this regard, the AMPSRA held a meeting with the doctors of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department and during the meeting, the doctors have clarified that these pictures are fake hence consumption of chicken or eggs is safe in Meghalaya,” said Kharshandi.

Kharshandi also informed that the association had lodged a complaint with the Lumdiengjri Police station against those who circulated old pictures of infected chicken and condemned the social media posts which are spreading misinformation regarding bird flu.

The AMPSRA president said the reason for high price rise in chicken is due to less supply from Assam since West Bengal has already put a cap on selling chicken to Meghalaya.
