Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the National People’s Party-led government at Raj Bhavan in Shillong on Tuesday. He will be accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Conrad K Sangma told reporters on Tuesday that this is for the first time that the Prime Minister will be attending a swearing-in ceremony of a government.
“This is the only time that this is happening. As far as my knowledge goes, the PM has never been present during the swearing-in ceremony of any government in the past. So this in itself is a historic event in one way,” he said.
Sangma added, “And more importantly, it is a strong message to the people of Meghalaya that the PM is concerned and will support and will give all the help to the state of Meghalaya and we expect the support like was given in the past or even much more.”
He said that the Prime Minister has been very positive about the overall development of Northeast.
Not just Meghalaya, but the Prime Minister has supported the whole North East and hence I am pretty sure in the coming five years also that we will get the support of the Centre and the PM the fact that he is coming here for the swearing-in himself,” Sangma asserted.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made for the prime minister’s visit to the capital city.
