Heroin worth over Rs 2 crore seized in Meghalaya

Police recovered 21 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 253.53 grams.

Heroin worth over Rs 2 crore was recovered from a Tata Sumo vehicle on Wednesday evening after it was abandoned by two passengers in Meghalaya.

Informing this on Thursday, superintendent of police of East Khasi Hills district,  Sylvester Nongtnger said an alert Tata Sumo driver promptly informed the police about a suspicious bag that was left abandoned in his vehicle by two passengers.

The said bag was checked at Madanrting Police station and recovered 21 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 253.53 grams along with some clothes. The drugs seized are worth over Rs 2 crore, he said.

A case has been registered with the Madanrting police station and efforts are on to nab the involved culprits, the police officer added.
