Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli on Monday said that a gas pipeline project is in process which aims to connect all North East (NE) states.
Speaking to media persons in Shillong, Teli said that through the Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd (IGGL), a joint venture of Indian Oil, ONGC, GAIL, Oil India, and Numaligarh Refinery, a gas pipeline project is in process to connect all NE states in the future.
“In this project, the Government of India has also included Meghalaya. This pipeline will extend till Shillong and we have asked to initiate the project at the earliest," said Teli.
Teli also said that recently tenders for five blocks were invited and Meghalaya at the initial stage was not included but soon tender for the state too will also be invited.
He added the frequent hikes in prices of fuel in the country is due to frequent increase in crude oil prices in the international market but the central government is taking all necessary steps to curb the price hike.
“The country imports about 83% of oil and gas from outside the country and if there is an increase in prices in the international market, we also hike the prices of fuel and gas", said Teli.
Teli further informed that as of now since India is importing gas from outside the country and when the global prices of oil and gas increase the government has to automatically raise it.
He added if oil and gas are available within the country, the government can control its prices according to the convenience of the people of the country who are the consumers.
