The Meghalaya police on Thursday organised the All Faith Interaction programme at Bianchi Hall Mary Help of Christian Cathedral premises, Laitumkhrah, on the issue of drug addiction and related social evils.
The interaction programme was graced by Director General Police (DGP) Meghalaya LR Bishnoi and the programme was chaired by the Superintendent of Police (SP) City Vivek Syiem.
Bishnoi spoke at length on the issues and challenges of drug addiction and the need to collaborate with religious and community leaders towards fighting the menace. He urged all religious heads that every church, temple, mosque, gurdwara and other religious institution should extend support in the rehabilitation of at least one drug user.
The interaction programme was followed by a lively interaction session where about 200 religious leaders of churches, temples, mosques, gurdwaras and other religious institutions within Shillong.
Others who also spoke on the occasion included were Father Richard Majaw, Vicar General, Shillong Archdiocese, Rev WC Khongwir, former moderator Presbyterian Church of India, Nabha Bhattacharjee, president Central Puja Committee, Mukhdar Hafeez, second Imam Bilal Masjid Lumdiengiri and Raminder Singh, president Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha.
