National Youth Awardees Association Manipur (NYAAM) on Sunday informed that the association would be submitting a seven-point charter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi within five days to address the present difficulties and grievances of people in Manipur.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, NYAAM president Laishram Luxmi expressed disappointment over the central government’s silence with regard to issues in Manipur.

“We have decided it is time for national youth awardees in Manipur to unite and voice a common concern as such we resolved to submit the charter during an urgent emergency meeting to restore peace and normalcy in the state,” she said.

She highlighted that the charter included seven main concerns such as the withdrawal of SoO with the Kuki militants, the opening of internet lockdown and the implementation of NRC among others.

“Withdrawing the SoO would be beneficial as the present conflict has been exhorted by their involvement; this is not only a concern for the state but the entire nation,” she added.

She stated that the charter would go into detail about the merits and demerits of opening internet service in Manipur during the crisis.

She also appealed to authorities concerned to address the plights of farmers properly and pointed out the need for all CSOs to unite at this crucial juncture under the same banner.

She further urged authorities to convene an emergency assembly sitting to discuss the present crisis and figure out measures which could be implemented to rein in the conflict.

We need the support of all well-minded individuals and groups in Manipur to restore peace swiftly, she added.
