Manipur MP RK Ranjan on Monday launched ‘Yang Honey’ of Khamasom Walely village in a programme held at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre in Imphal on Monday.

"Yang Honey is a unique type of honey as it is the only organic honey produced from Yang Forest, the only virgin forest in Manipur, and the honey extracted from the bees there is highly nutritious," MP Ranjan said while addressing the programme that was jointly organised by Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur and the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat, Imphal.

The MP also stated that since these highly nutritious honey-producing bees are frequently attacked by Khoiren and Khoibi Ningthou bees (types of giant bees), Khamasom Walely Villagers gives protection for the bees by providing shelter inside their houses, and nesting inside the house brings out the uniqueness of ‘Yang Honey’.

“Khamasom Walely Village is a biodiversity hotspot with rich natural resources and I feel that the honey from the village will be the best in the world,” the MP said.

Observing that Khamasom Walely Village was declared as Honey Bee Village on March 5 and with the launching of ‘Yang Honey’ on July 5 after five months, MP Ranjan said it has incidentally become an event of triple five and is an auspicious sign for successful production of the honey.

Joint director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region I Meghachandra Singh said that ‘Yang Honey’ can fulfil the vision of the present government’s doubling of income. The honey comes from the extreme interior part of Manipur, and it will be of high value in the international market, he added.
