The 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector AR/ IGAR (E) organised a free Medical Check-up and Wellness camp at Dailong village, Tamenglong district on Wednesday as a part of World Health Day (WHD) observation.
The free medical camp was conducted with the objective of providing free medical assistance to senior citizens who are not able to visit doctors in the town due to various physical and health conditions since Dailong village is located about 10 km away from Tamenglong district headquarters.
Commandant of 44 AR colonel Pradeep Kumar in the presence of chief medical officer of Tamenglong Dr Chambo Gonmei and others dignitaries opened the free medical camp at Dailong village.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradeep Kumar sought the cooperation of the public in reaching out to needy people and thus improving the overall health of the needy people. He also urged the youth to contribute towards nation building and inclusive development of the society.
“This is not the first time that 44 Assam Rifles took large scale healthcare initiatives in the Tamenglong district,” he said mentioning other programmes the unit had earlier organised which included a two-day medical camp at Phoklong Khullen village, Tousem sub division, a mobile medical camp along IT road villages in Tamei sub division, and a recent mother child wellness camp at Kahulong village in Tamenglong.
During the free medical camp, around 250 adults and old-aged persons were provided medical attention, basic knowledge on health education, hygiene and sanitation. The villagers were investigated for the skin infection, fever, cough and cold. Apart from the aforementioned services, minor dressing and first aid was imparted during the camp.
In regard to promoting awareness on COVID-19, the battalion also announced hygiene practices against coronavirus by using a quadcopter. A Covid awareness stall with posters and pamphlets was also established at the site.
Meanwhile, Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), India under its programme ‘Durex The Birds and Bees talk’ celebrated World Health Day under the theme ‘Building a fairer, healthier world’ at Sagolband Tera Sapam Leirak, Imphal West on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the programme, state coordinator of ADRA, India Dogen Gurumayum said that the northeastern states of India including Manipur have a high prevalence of people living with HIV.
Adolescence is one of the most crucial stages in life and a person starts experiencing change in physical anatomy and hormonal changes, he said adding that most adolescents faced various problems including anatomical changes, mental pressure and sometimes even social stigma.
Dogen maintained that adolescents are prone to intoxicants as they try to alleviate the problems.
While saying that ADRA has been giving awareness and proper knowledge to adolescents on how to tackle the changes, he stated that ADRA is targeting to spread awareness to about 2 million children across the country.
Similar programme to give awareness and knowledge to adolescents will be conducted across the state starting from Churachandpur district from next week, Dogen added.
