World Book Day 2023 was observed by the Sahitya Thoupang Lup and Aseilup Manipur on Sunday at the Old Assembly Complex in Imphal. They also commemorated the 133rd Khongjom Day.
During the observation, the Heisnam Basantakumar Award 2023 was conferred on president of LEIKOL, Kshetrimayum Subadani.
Speaking on the occasion, Sahitya Thoupang Lup president Tongbram Amarjit said that the day was being observed to honour the works and contribution of the writers and publishers to the society.
It is also an effort to let the youths know the benefits of reading books and let them keep the habit of reading books.
As a commemoration of the 133rd Khongjom Day, a discourse on the book “Manipur Khoirirol da Khongjom laan” written by Lairenlakpam Ibemhal and Nando Ningomba was organised, besides organising a poem recitation competition.
The programme also witnessed president of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Longjam Joychandra Singh, and president of Asheilup Manipur, Dilip Mayengbam, as presidium members.
