There is no use waiting for the Central government’s attention, the Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) said and on Thursday. It urged all womenfolk in the valley to extend aid in violence-affected areas instead of initiating "unnecessary agitation" in the Greater Imphal area.

Speaking to media at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, IKAL general secretary Wahengbam Luwangleima stated that IKAL had been working relentlessly to solve the crisis in Manipur and as such, members had gone to Delhi on June 16 to meet with the Central government leaders but were denied.

“We waited for an appointment with the President, Prime Minister, home minister, defence minister and forest minister but sadly, we were denied and hence, we had submitted a memorandum to all their offices,” she said.

She maintained there was no use of waiting for the Centre’s attention and reiterated that all womenfolk in the state should aid violence-hit areas in the valley instead.

She pointed out that violent action of narco-terrorism has led to many innocent villagers taking up arms to fend themselves.

She highlighted that the delay tactics of the central government in resolving the issue in Manipur had severely impeded various sectors in Manipur, primarily the education sector.

“Since the centre has remained silent on the whole issue, a women’s only convention will be convened soon to discuss the actions which can be meted out by womenfolk of Manipur,” she said.
