In a show of solidarity, women from various women's organisations in Manipur assembled in front of the Nupi Lal Complex in Imphal on Friday to prevent Chief Minister N Biren from resigning from his position.
The protesting women expressed that this is not the appropriate time for the chief minister to step down, given the unrest situation in the state.
Currently, there has been no official confirmation regarding the chief minister's reported intention to resign.
The women protesters, however, continue to gather in front of the Nupi Lal Complex near the chief minister's office, awaiting further updates and to prevent him from submitting his resignation to the governor at Raj Bhawan, Imphal.
Expressing concerns over the state of affairs in Manipur, that women protesters stressed that Biren should take the responsibility of restoring peace in Manipur instead of resigning. They called upon him to actively initiate measures to address the current situation.
The women protestors also expressed their opposition to a five-day total shutdown of the Khwairamband Bazar announced by a certain group. They argued that the market should remain open during these challenging times to safeguard the local economy from further damage.
Furthermore, the women protesters stressed the importance of supporting the elected representatives and resolving issues through political means, rather than resorting to attacks. They urged for unity among the people, highlighting the need to stand together during these trying times.
