A woman was killed after a fire broke out at a house at L Khaukual village, Sangaikot TD Block in Churachandpur district around 3 am Monday, sources said.
According to the sources, the fire broke out at the house of one Nemzahat Mate, 80, wife of (L) Onkholet from L Khaukual Village, Sangaikot TD Block of Churachandpur district. The woman died in the fire that razed the house.
The sources said villagers rushed to the house on learning about the fire, but the woman was already killed by the fire. The source of the fire is yet to be ascertained though it is suspected that the fireplace in the kitchen may have caused it.
Members of KSO Sangaikot block also arrived at the site and they wrapped the corpse with a Kuki traditional shawl. Sangaikot TD Block SDO Solomon and other teams also visited the place.
It may be mentioned that the house was newly constructed and the woman was staying alone at the time of the incident as other members of the family were out of station. KSO Sangaikot are exploring ways and means to help rebuild the house.
