Woman from Mizoram arrested in Shillong-drug trafficking case

The mastermind in a drug trafficking case was arrested at her rented apartment at Demthring, Madanrting in Shillong.

A woman from Mizoram was arrested from Shillong on Wednesday for alleged involvement in a drug trafficking case, police said.

The police said the woman has been identified as one Lathazuali Ralte. She was apprehended at her rented apartment at Demthring, Madanrting with the help of Madanriting police station staff and was brought to Ladrymbai to be arrested in connection with the instant case, East Jaintia Hills Additional Superintendent of Police B Jyrwa said.

The arrest of Lathazuali took place after police arrested one Lalduhwami Ralte, who was ferrying illegal contraband from Mizoram to Shillong in a tourist Tata Sumo, the police officer stated.

The vehicle was detected and detained at Ladrymbai near Friend Hotel after police acted on credible sources of information. Heroin weighing 55.68 grams was recovered from a black backpack of Lalduhwami, the police officer further said.

On his arrest, police immediately proceeded to Shillong to apprehend Lathazuali, who is the mastermind and the main receiver of the illegal contraband, Jyrwa added.

A case was registered with the Khliehriat police station and an investigation of the case is in progress, he further added.

Marijuana case: Three Arrested

Meanwhile, three persons were arrested along with marijuana in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya on Wednesday. The driver of a Honda City car identified as Laxmindar Gour was arrested after 84 kg of marijuana were recovered from inside his vehicle while conducting a naka checking at Damcherra, Kuliang, NH-6, Additional Superintendent of Police, B Jyrwa said.

In the same place, police also arrested Md Hachan Mia (37) and Ajir Hosen (35) from Tripura after 77kgs of marijuana was recovered from a Mahindra KUV 100 car. The police officer said all formalities under NDPS Act have been observed in the presence of independent witnesses.

Cases have been registered with the Lumshnong police station and an investigation is on to trace the forward and backward linkages.
