Woman arrested for Facebook post

A team of Moirang police station arrested the woman for allegedly raising a false alarm on her Facebook post concerning COVID-19 on Tuesday around 3.30 pm.

A team of Moirang police station arrested one woman for allegedly raising a false alarm on her Facebook post concerning COVID-19 on Tuesday around 3.30 pm.

Police reported that Soibam ongbi RK Ibetombi Devi, 42, wife of S Ajitkumar of Tronglaobi Awang Leikai was arrested for allegedly spreading misinformation through a Facebook post concerning COVID-19’.

Using her Facebook account ‘Bebe Rajkr’ she uploaded a post which reads: “Now community spread starts...... one father and one son from Konjeng Leikai released as negative turn out positive after reaching home.... another 6 turns positive in their Leikai and some more suspected”.

In connection with the incident, a non-FIR case has been taken up at Moirang police station.

DC, Bishnupur earlier made an announcement to the public that any person who is found spreading unfounded rumours regarding COVID-19 is liable to be punished under section 54 of Disaster Management Act, 2005.
