In a bid to facilitate the farmers who are reeling under tough times owing to the prevailing crisis in the state, Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) distributed winter vegetable crop seeds to the farmers of Iram Siphai in Imphal West on Sunday.
The activity was carried out with assistance from the Horticulture department under the initiative of IFM president, Kh Gopen Luwang as part of the ‘Grow More Food’ campaign, stated a release.
Speaking on the sidelines of the seeds distribution event, Kh Gopen Luwang highlighted the sufferings of the internally displaced persons who are seeking refuge at various relief camps as well as those on the frontline and appealed to give them a share of the vegetables once it is harvested, it stated.
He also stressed on scientific methods to improve and increase crop yield, it said. He added that the activity aimed to make the society self-sufficient in food production and appealed to the farmers to extend their support in ensuring the same, it mentioned.
Winter vegetable crop seeds including american pea, cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, cucumber, lady’s finger etc. were distributed to the farmers, it stated. Councillor of Wangoi municipality ward no 9, Chanambam Priyobarta; chief advisor navy club, M Samden; social worker A Kokngang and others were present at the event held at Iram Siphai community hall, it added.
