‘Will stop transporting sand along NH-37 from August 1’

Manipur Sand Distributor Association general secretary alleged that Kuki miscreants along NH-37 were collecting unwarranted taxes from the sand trucks which pushed the association to resort to the strike.

Manipur Sand Distributor Association on Sunday announced that sand transporting trucks plying to Dimapur and Assam under the association will cease work from August 1 until National Highway-37 was opened properly.

Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, general secretary of the association Gurumayum Shitaljit sought the support of all private truckers and companies in the cease work strike and appealed to them to cooperate with the association’s decision.

“The association resorted to stringent decision taking into consideration the plights faced by the truckers and truck owners because of the ongoing turmoil as such we hope all private sand truckers and companies will cooperate with the association’s decision,” he said.

He alleged that Kuki miscreants along NH-37 were collecting unwarranted taxes from the sand trucks which pushed the association to resort to the strike.

He cautioned that the association would not be responsible for any untoward incidents towards sand truckers if they go against the association’s decision and continued transportation.

“The association will not claim responsibility for any mishap as the strike had been called to draw the attention of the authorities,” he said.

As such he urged authorities concerned to make the highway safe for the truckers and properly restore normalcy and safety for transporters along the highway.
