Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency MLA Khumukcham Joykisan on Monday asserted that he would resign from his post as MLA and join hands with people if the demand for separate administration gained traction.

“I will join the public’s agitation if the territorial integrity and unity of Manipur is compromised,” he said.
Speaking to media at his residence in Thangmeiband on Monday, the MLA highlighted the people’s demand for state security deployment in various sensitive areas and stated that he had surrendered all his security team to join the frontline at this crucial juncture.

“I stand by my promise to surrender all my security team to aid in the fight and as such submitted all relevant documents to do the same; the people need the personnel more than me,” he said.

He pointed out that he took the decision as the state forces were lagging in manpower and needed all the push they could.

Cases of unprovoked attack by militants are reported every day and hence, the state forces need all the personnel they can conjure to ward off these attacks, he added.

He further suggested the government to relax the security concentration in the state capital and deploy them at ultra-sensitive areas for vital security reinforcements.

He also appealed to people not to cause disruption to central and state forces and urged them to aid the forces in carrying out their duties.

Replying to public’s decry over the inaction of the 50 remaining MLAs, Joykisan stated that he was chosen by the people Thangmeiband to lead them and would not take up any action without their permission.

He further exuded confidence that the centre would not take any initiative against the will of the people in Manipur and stated that they would dispense all required resources to safeguard the peace and integrity of Manipur.

The MLA later sent off his security personnel to their respective battalions from where they would be deployed to various sensitive areas.
