United Rehabilitation Centre (URC) on Thursday declared that the centre would initiate necessary measures to reduce the increasing anti-social activity committed by drug users and cut down the overall number of drug users in Manipur.
URC is a conglomerate body of 17 rehab centres in the state.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal, URC president stated that the centre has been striving to bring back drug users into mainstream life by teaching and healing them.
We teach them necessary guidelines which will help them lead a normal life, he added. He noted that URC had always put the users first and had not charged more than the necessary amount.
“Our priority is the users. We do not charge extravagant amounts on fees as we want to help users who are looking to heal themselves,” he said.
He added that the centre even provides free treatment to users who cannot afford to stay at rehab centres.
“There have been reports of centres abducting drug users from home and putting them in rehab centres. We do not condone such a forceful act,” he said.
As such, he cautioned rehab centres and people who indulge in such activities not to commit such acts in the future.
