Will continue crackdown on areas rampant in drug activities: Imphal East SP

Imphal East SP Kshetrimayum Shivakanta stated that joint efforts of law enforcement agencies and the people was required to root out the menace of drugs from the society.

Imphal East superintendent of police (SP) Kshetrimayum Shivakanta on Monday stated that areas rampant in drug activities under Imphal East district had been listed and maintained that the crackdown on such rampant areas will continue.

He was speaking at the awareness cum public meeting held on the topic ‘Mayai Kaba Nishana Khunaida Piba Chietheng Amadi Meeyamna Lougadaba Thoudang’ at Wangkhei Ayangpalli Leima Keithel. The programme was jointly organised by Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Diamond club, Wangkhei Ayangpalli and Wangkhei Ayangpalli Leima Keithel Apunba Lup.

The Imphal East SP stated that joint efforts of law enforcement agencies and the people was required to root out the menace of drugs from the society. He maintained that such awareness programmes and public meetings was vital in mobilising the masses to join in the government’s ‘War on Drugs’.

“Active participation from various stakeholders is crucial if we are to succeed in the war; it is a social responsibility of every citizen to create a healthy social environment for posterity,” he said.

Shivakanta further stated that people also have a pivotal role in resolving the aftermath of drug menace in the state. It is the primary duty of police and the people to properly handle the demography impacted by drug and substance abuse, he added.

He highlighted that Imphal east police teams are continuously working to seize drugs and destroy areas notorious for drug activities in Imphal East district.

SP Shivakanta further stated such awareness will help in alerting people of the dangers associated with drugs and exhort them to create strict community guidelines against activities related to it.

President of Diamond club Wangkhei Ayangpalli T. Saratkumar, president of Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup Y Memma Leima, vice president of Wangkhei Ayangpalli Leima Keithel Apunba Lup L Loidang, MAPI council president KC Romeo and residents of Wangkhei Ayangpalli took part in the programme.
