A wildfire was seen ablazed on the hill of Tendongyan in Sekmai area of Imphal West on Sunday evening around 6.30 pm. The area is said to be some distance away from the Sekmai Police station.
The cause of the wildfire or where and how it began and if anyone was responsible for the same could not be ascertained, till the filing of this report.
The wildfire happened a day after Chief Minister N Biren Singh appealed to villagers and local clubs settled at the foothills of different areas of the state to form committees with respective areas of district forest officer; officer-in-charge and superintendent of police in order to take preventive measures to stop wildfires at hills.
According to reports, police from the Sekmai Police Station were seen taking note of the fire from the foothill at the time of filing of this story.
Over the past one month or so, forest fire or wildfire has become one of the main issues in the state destroying the ecosystem where many organisations have also raised the issue and called for preventing such.
