It may be mentioned that the case pertains to the death of a pregnant woman on January 9, 2015 at Bidyanagar village in Jiribam. The convict was engaged in a fight with the daughter of the victim on January 9, 2015. When the victim, who was nine months pregnant, tried to intervene, Selendini kicked her in the abdomen which knocked her down unconscious on the ground.

The pregnant woman was rushed to a Community Health Centre at Jiribam, but died on the same day. The daughter then filed a police complaint and a case was registered against Selendini.

The court observed that Selendini had no intention to commit the crime and she herself tried to save the victim who was injured. And, she had no criminal antecedent and also, she was an Anganwadi helper giving service to the children.
