Peace and Integrity Committee Kyamgei (PICK) on Friday strongly condemned the inhumane incident which went viral and demanded stringent legal actions against the culprits involved.

However, the committee expressed disappointment over the prime minister breaking silence only on the viral incident and not the violence which had engulfed the entire state for nearly 80 days.

Speaking to media at Kyamgei Khagemba Macha Ibungo Laishang, Imphal, PICK convenor Chingakham Meghachandra questioned why the prime minister failed to comment on the several atrocities which were carried out against the Meiteis in Churachandpur and other areas.

“Why did the prime minister fail to take action against suspected narco-terrorists who had been committing brutal crimes ever since the crisis erupted; authorities should properly investigate horrific crimes committed on both sides and not strive to paint a vested narrative,” he said.

He further questioned why the centre was silent when the paramilitary forces allegedly committed heinous crimes against women under AFSPA in the last decades. Did the central government not consider those as crimes against women, he questioned.

He also appealed to people to prevent such barbaric acts in the future and stated that such mindless actions could malign the image of the entire community.

“Various reports have been published about the torching of houses and killing of Meitei villagers on May 3 in several Kuki-dominated areas but still the centre brushed aside all these incidents, why,” he asked.

He urged all BJP state leaders and members in Manipur to reveal all these incidents to the BJP high command at the centre.

“We have also received reports that poppy cultivation is being started in some locations; authorities need to step on the pedal instead of striving for higher political grounds.

Please conduct a proper survey into such reports and stop the cultivation, he added.

He further appealed to all civil bodies, meira paibis and organisations to make a concerted effort in resolving the crisis.

“We all need to unite and strive to concentrate our dispersed outcries into a single unit; if we do not unite and raise our voice for one Manipur the outcome of the crisis will be unfavourable,” he said.
