As news of division among 32 elected BJP representatives in Manipur over the issue of party leadership and the post of new chief minister were circulating in social media, winning party members dismissed it all as “baseless” and cleared the air, saying the party high command will decide on the matter.

While Govindas Konthoujam, who was elected from Bishnupur AC, on Sunday dismissed the news of him camping with other candidates and vying for the chief minister post circulating in social media, state BJP vice-president Ch Chidananda had said on Saturday that the party high command will decide on the state BJP legislature leader, who will be appointed on March 19,

Govindas, while speaking to reporters in Imphal, clarified that he had no intention of becoming the chief minister, and said : “For me, the decision taken by the high command of BJP will be my pleasure”.

Govindas was elected as the MLA for sixth consecutive term from Bishnupur AC. He was inducted into the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi on August 1, 2021 after he resigned from post of MPCC president.

Chidananda, in a video clip issued to media, said that in some social media platforms and digital media propagandas are being spread that formation of groupism has started among the 32 BJP elected representatives.

In the propaganda, names of state BJP president, A Sharda, former Speaker Y Khemchand; former Chief Minister, N Biren Singh; former works minister, Th Biswajit and union minister of state, RK Ranjan are included. It is unfortunate to spread such baseless propaganda, he added.

Chidananda said inside the party there are no such issues as the BJP elected representatives are still at their respective residence and some of them are engaged with some personal works. He appealed to the people not to believe such baseless propaganda as various activities are yet to be completed like the reception ceremony of the party national observers and election observers.

Meanwhile, news was that T Robindro, the winning BJP candidate of Thanga was siding a faction group of the winning BJP candidates regarding the chief minister’s post. Terming the news “baseless”, Robindro said: “There is no such thing as faction among the BJP winning candidates”.

Robindro told reporters in Imphal that all the members of the party are strictly following the rules and regulation of the party and all its winning candidates are always ready to accept the decision taken by the high command of the party.

“Circulating such rumours is a motive by some intruders to tarnish the good image of the BJP,” he added.

Expressing his gratitude to the people of constituency for re-electing him as their representative for the second term, Robindro announced that he is ready to take suggestions of the fisher community of the Loktak Lake for their welfare and developmental works.

Robindro said maximum population of the Thanga AC is dominated by the fisher community. So, giving a special emphasis to the fishers will be his priority, he said.

In the upcoming five years, he will also be giving emphasis on human resource development, skill development and entrepreneurship to solve the problem of unemployment in the constituency, he added.

Meanwhile, caretaker chief minister N Biren Singh held a review meeting to assess the reason for the party losing some seats in the recent Assembly election.

“Held a review meeting to assess the reason for losing in the seats which BJP could not win in the recent assembly election. Smt @AShardaDevi Ji, Pres @BJP4Manipur & Sh Abhay Giri Ji, GS (Org) BJP Manipur were also present in the meeting,” Biren tweeted.
