Political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal expressed frustration over what he termed as tactics used by the central government to instill fear and suppress the Meetei community by invoking terms like “President’s Rule,” “AFSPA,” and the “900 Kukis.”
During the 73rd Death Anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot, organised by the Meitei Cheingak, Meitrabak (MCM) at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, he questioned, “Where have all the 900 influx militants gone?”
Kangleipal raised concerns about the intelligence report that was initially considered by the security advisor but seemed to have been sidelined after condemnation from Kuki groups.
He questioned how the intelligence report, once significant, could become irrelevant so quickly.
He further suggested the possibility that central forces may be utilising Kuki militants to sustain the ongoing situation in Manipur and impose AFSPA, implying that some officers might struggle to advance in their careers without the act in place.

Ending the one and half year long ongoing crisis in Manipur is up to the central government, he said, adding, “It is simple. Abrogate SoO agreement and send away illegal immigrants who have come to the state after 1951.”
He emphasised that protecting international borders is the duty of the Centre, not the state, making the central government responsible for the issue of illegal immigration.
Reflecting on the legacy of Lamyanba Irabot, Kangleipal remarked that if Irabot had lived longer, the problems faced by indigenous communities today would have been significantly reduced.
He stressed the importance of discussing Irabot’s ideology and following in his footsteps to achieve a prosperous Manipur.
The event, which included the laying of floral tributes to the late Irabot, was presided over by MCM President N Sanahal among other including Sumati Sougrakpam, general secretary of the All Manipur Students’ Guardian Organisation; S Yaima, president of the Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur and Md Nasir Khan, president of the Kangleipak Minority Welfare Organisation among others.
