Solimla Jajo from Manipur, Northeast India bagged silver medal in the Miss World Model Physique 2022 junior category at the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships 2022 on Friday.
Solimla represented team India in the seven-day-long 13th WBPF championships 2022 held at Phuket, Thailand, which will conclude on December 12.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Press on Saturday, Solimla who was a student of Royal Gymnasium, Ukhrul, expressed her immense joy on winning the silver medal in the world platform. "Winning medal in the world competitions means a lot to me," she maintained.
The silver medallist winner also thanked one and all for their love, support and prayers. "I could earn this medal all because of your unceasing love and support," Solimla, hailing from Kasom khullen in Manipur's Kamjong district, said.
Robert Meitei, Jajo's coach and trainer, Royal Gymnasium, Ukhrul, also expressed immense joy.
"I am pleased and happy to be with my brethren brothers and sisters of Manipur's Tangkhul community for the faith that they have reposed in my work. As I watch the award ceremony of Solimla Jajo, I have no words to express... the medal that she brought for the country, state and community put away all the hardships we endured during her preparations," Robert stated.
He also expressed his gratitude to minister Khashim Vashum, MLA Ram Muivah, MLA Leishiyo, Rang Peter, DC Kamjong, Krishna kumar, DC Ukhrul, CSOs, student bodies and well-wishers of Ukhrul for their support. It will be a big impact and honour, if Solimla is given a suitable job based on her qualification and medal, he shared.
"I'm proud to say that Ukhrul tops in bodybuilding among the hill districts of Manipur," he said, adding that war on drugs can only be erased by education and sports.
Solimla faced many hurdles. "Inspite of all these she managed to sail through and follow her dream," he continued.
It may be mentioned that Solimla bagged silver medal in the 54th Asia bodybuilding and model physique championships 2022. Recently, Solimla was also adjudged "Miss Manipur" model physique 2022 title in an event held at BOAT, Imphal.
In the just concluded 11th edition of Eastern India Bodybuilding championship held in Kolkata from 12-14 November, 2022, she secured 5th position in women's model physique in open category.
A champion in inter-district championship 2022, Jajo was also the winner of Miss Manipur Model Physique 2019 in open category and stood 5th placed in Federation Cup 2020.
A student of Pettigrew college, Ukhrul, Jajo is also the brand ambassador of Ukhrul FC (football club).
She was also among the medal winners in the 60th Mr Manipur championships 2022 organised by the All Manipur Body Builders Association (AMBBA). Yuvraj Sonar of of Royal Gymnasium, Ukhrul won gold in the 60 kg and was adjudged "best poster" of Manipur for the year 2022, while KT Themreiyo and Suratlunminthang Touthang of Moreh bagged bronze medal in 55 kg and junior over 75 kg respectively.
