The absence of an alternative drainage outlet in the ongoing construction activities of Karkinos Cancer Hospital has affected the campus of Dental College of JNIMS with frequent inundation of water creating hardship to patients.
The absence of a well-established drainage system in the vicinity of the Dental College has been attributed to the construction of the cancer hospital, resulting in disrupted drainage flow and recurrent floods.
Patients navigating the waterlogged campus for dental treatment expressed their concerns and emphasised the necessity of maintaining a proper drainage system during the ongoing construction of the cancer hospital.
While acknowledging the positive impact the cancer hospital is expected to have on cancer patients in Manipur, individuals accessing dental services at JNIMS stress the importance of ensuring that the hospital construction do not adversely affect other departments.
“We appreciate the efforts to alleviate the burden on cancer patients, but the construction must not cause hardship for others,” voiced patients during interactions with a group of media.
Without the implementation of an efficient drainage system, there are growing apprehensions that not only the Dental College but the entire JNIMS campus could become susceptible to flooding in the near future, they added.
It has also raised worries among patients and staff about potential breeding grounds for insects and mosquitoes, posing health hazards.
In response to these pressing issues, patients, along with the staff called upon the state government and relevant authorities to address and rectify the drainage concerns promptly.
Urgent action is deemed essential to prevent further disruptions and safeguard the overall well-being of patients, ensuring that the coexistence of the cancer hospital and other departments at JNIMS remains harmonious.
