As part of the Manipur government’s initiative of War on Drugs 2.0, the Churachandpur police on Wednesday arrested two individuals and seized 297 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar from their possession at Singngat in Churachandpur.
In a press meet held at Churachandpur SP complex, Churachandpur SP Shrivanand Surve said that based on specific information around 7 pm, a team of Churachandpur police led by Singngat police station OC had set up a check-post at the Singngat to Suangkuang Road, near New Teikot village under Singngat sub division. The team intercepted two Kenbo bikes and detained two the persons who were riding the bikes for checking around 8.30 pm, he mentioned.
He informed that upon checking two sacks on the bikes, the police team found soap boxes containing suspected Brown Sugar. The team commenced checking the bags in the presence of executive magistrate and civil witnesses and seized the soap boxes, he said.
He also mentioned that the team then arrested the two individuals and seized the contrabands including their mobile phones and the two Kenbo bikes. The two individuals were identified as Ngamkholal Guite, 30, son of Letkhopao from Mongjang Village at Singngat and Mangmuanlian Hangluah, 46, son of late Goukholian from Buangmun Village at Singngat, the SP continued.
The Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) had estimated that the contraband of suspected brown sugar weighing 3.564 kg would cost around Rs 55 lakhs in the local market, he maintained. A regular case FIR No 23(11)2022 SGT PS u/s 21(c) NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation, he added.
