A combined team on Friday retrieved the body of a villager who was allegedly killed in an attack by suspected Kuki militants at Napat Thongkhong, 18 km south of Kumbi Police Station in Bishnupur district on May 28, sources said.
Police said the body was retrieved by the combined team of Kumbi Police, Border Security Force, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police. It was taken out from the village around 2.30 pm after the Kuki militants were flushed out from the area.
The deceased has been identified as one Yengkhom Pishak, 65, from Napat Thongkhong. The official identification of the deceased was carried out on Saturday after it was brought to RIMS mortuary.
The body could not be taken out of the area as the suspected Kuki militants have been dominating the Serou and Napat area.
The postmortem examination will be conducted on Sunday after an inquest by a magistrate, police said.
