The Zomi Chief Association, general headquarters on Tuesday stated that the chief of MT Geltam village of Singngat Sub division Kammuanpau has been abducted by unidentified armed persons who also threatened his family with dire consequences if the security forces were alerted, sources said.

The association said in a release that they strongly condemn the kidnapping of the village chief on Saturday night from his residence. It said it could not accept such unlawful and inhuman acts and demanded that he be released unconditionally.
“We will not remain mute spectators and will take all necessary measures for his release,” it added.

Meanwhile, sources said that the vehicle of the village chief, bearing Registration no MN 02B 1120 was found abandoned near Kolhen Village of Henglep Sub-division by a team of Singngat police personnel.
The OC of Singngat Police station, inspector Tellen Kom said that whole machinery of the police as well as other security forces like Assam Riffle are in full swing to find a way for the safe release of the village chief who was also the founder of Zomi Fins Musical Band in which he is the lead guitarist.
