Under trial prisoner found hanging inside cell

Police said the under trial prisoner was an under-trial prisoner and was remanded to judicial custody by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bishnupur against the charge of murder of his father in 2021.

An under trial prisoner was found hanging inside his cell at the Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, Imphal East at around 1.30 AM on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Moirangthem Jupiter, 30, S/o (L) M Jugindro Singh of Thanga Moirangthem Leikai, Bishnupur district.

Police said that Jupiter was an under-trial prisoner and was remanded to judicial custody by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bishnupur against the charge of murder of his father in 2021. 

It was reported that Jupiter was a substance abuser and killed his father by slashing him multiple times on April 20, 2021 at around 11.30 PM while his father was sleeping at his house in Thanga Moirangthem Leikai, Bishnupur district. 

Police further reported that he was kept in a lunatic cell due to his mental disorder. The police personnel found him hanging inside his cell during a routine check-up of the inmate.

After informing the family members of the deceased, the body was kept JNIMS morgue. 

Later, after conducting an autopsy with the knowledge of the family members, the body was handed over to them for his last rite on the same day.
