National People’s Party (NPP) candidate of Chandel assembly constituency, Lunkhopao Haokip alias Apao said some of the alleged United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) cadres hijacked and burnt down one Gypsy vehicle belonging to NPP workers on Friday.
Apao told media at NPP office located at MG Avenue, Imphal on Sunday. He said the incident occurred at around 8 pm at Twilelon village, Chakpikaong sub-division, Chandel district.
Apao said on Thursday, UKLF leaders openly called a meeting at K Savumpa village, Kehenjoi sub division and at Twilelon village in support of the BJP candidate and another meeting was held at Kengjoi village on Friday last.
He alleged that the said cadre took signature of the village chiefs, took their phone numbers and gave a stern warning not to work against their dictates. The cadre also cautioned the villagers no any other parties will be entertained in their area of operation. He alleged that the cadre will mark the persons who do not obey their instruction and will be given capital punishment.
Further, Apao said on Friday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh made a strong remark and warned Kuki militants (SoO) group that they should know what the Centre and the state government can take any befitting action overnight of they violate and break the ground rules.
He continued that in Chandel assembly constituency, the scenario is in complete contrast to CM’s statement made at Saikul. He said the same Kuki militant had demolished one Scropio and assaulted two village chiefs on January 29. In connection with the incident, he had lodged a written complain at the authority concerned, including Election Commission of India through Chief Electoral Officer, but no concrete action has been taken yet, said Apao.
Superintendent of police Chandel had identified the alleged UKLF cadre as UKLF cadre, he added.
