With sudden power outages in Ukhrul district since wee hours on Monday morning, normal life of the populace has been severely affected.
Sources said that there was a technical problem between the Hungpung cement factory and Ukhrul town.
When this IFP correspondent visited the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) on Monday and enquired the manager concerning the power crisis in the district, it was found that out of 8,000 metre boxes installed in the district headquarter, bills were received from around 3,000 metre boxes only. Rest are left attended allowing free hands.
According to MSPDCL manager, Sothing Kashung, power supply for Ukhrul headquarter begins from Yaingangpokpi to Hungpung cement factory power line, 132 KV and from which 33 KV reaches Ukhrul town.
He continued that for backup it has another power line starting from Yaingangpokpi to Litan and from Hungpung cement factory to Ukhrul town.
Responding to IFP, Sothing asserted that the onus of Ukhrul power supply issues lies with MSPDCL once the Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) provides the power supply. He also said that there is no MSPCL office in Ukhrul.
There was power outage in Ukhrul district till the filing of this report.
