Refuting Chief Minister Biren’s statement that there is a large-scale destruction of forest in Loikhai area for poppy cultivation, chief of Ukha Loikhai village, Churachandpur, Thenkhomang Haokip, termed it ‘unfortunate’.
It is unfortunate that the CM N Biren Singh, in his public speech at S Kholian, Henglep subdivision on September 28, remarked that there is a -arge scale destruction of forest in Loikhai area for poppy cultivation, the chief said in a release.
According to a viral clip that is doing the rounds on social media, the CM also instructed the SP of Churachandpur to destroy the poppy cultivation and arrest the village chief, the chief stated.
“I would like to set the record straight once and for all that there is no poppy cultivation in the land within the jurisdiction of Loikhai. Hence, the remarks of the chief minister with regards to Loikhai village are uncorroborated and amounted to loose talk and slander,” the chief stated.
The viral speech, perhaps based on misinformation, is done to tarnish my image and reputation, said the village chief in the release.
“It is my humble appeal, rather request to all concerned to refrain from making baseless statements based on wild speculation,” he said.
