A team of district commandos of Imphal East has arrested one active cadre of a proscribed underground outfit, KCP (Noyon), while conducting random frisking and checking at Takhel near Thumbi Chingkhong, Imphal East, sources said.
The arrested person has been identified as one Naorem Joykumar Singh of Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Imphal West district.
Police reported that acting on information, the district commando team, led by officer-in-charge, commando Imphal East, Kh Henery Singh, under the supervision of superintendent of police, Imphal East, M Pradip Singh, conducted frisking and checking at Takhel and its neighbouring villages.
Police said that during the activity on Tuesday, Joykumar was detained around 10 pm. On questioning, he revealed that he is an active cadre of KCP (Noyon). He disclosed that he is presently working under the command of self-style deputy finance secretary, Bobby of the outfit.
Joykumar also revealed that he was involved in extortion of a huge amount of money from general public, private firms, government offices for raising funds for the outfit.
On the instruction of Bobby, on September 27, he, along with one of his associates named Naobi from Khurai, went to the residence of an officer of Manipur Forest Department at Nagamapal and made monetary demands for raising their party fund.
The arrested is also involved in the extortion of money from various oil pumps, particularly NRL Oil pumps; nationalised banks; government offices and private firms located at Imphal area on the command of Bobby.
One mobile phone along with a Jio SIM card and a scooter (Hero Pleasure), bearing registration number MN-01F/8399 were seized from his possession.
The arrested person along with the seized items were handed over to Lamlai Police Station for further action.
