A combined team of commando Thoubal and columns of 16 Assam Rifles detained two cadres of the proscribed PLA from around Heirok Part II Chingol areas in Thoubal on Tuesday.
According to sources, based on reliable input from 16 AR that some PLA cadres are planning to disrupt the upcoming Republic Day celebrations and that explosives have been transported to the Heirok area of Thoubal district, the combined team conducted a massive search operation in and around Heirok part 2 Chingol areas from 5 am onwards.
The combined team was led by additional SP (Ops) Thoubal O Wangkhomba assisted by OC commando Thoubal K Nitaranjan Singh and under the overall supervision of SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam, it mentioned.
During the search, the team detained two PLA cadres namely Maibam Kanta Singh, 45, son of Maibam Ibocha Singh and Bhumeshor Thoudam, 39, son of Thoudam Anoubi from Litan Makhong, Heirok part II, it informed.
The team also seized one Glock 9mm pistol with magazine, two 9mm pistols with magazines, 90 live rounds of 9 mm, nine Chinese-made hand grenades, eight detonators, one wired detonator, one remote control and a 9V battery, three wireless detonator receivers along with three mobile phones, it continued.
On further questioning, the detained individuals revealed that on the instruction of a self-styled captain of PLA Deepak, they had planned to detonate the explosives at different government installations at various places of the valley districts and target the security forces during the eve of the upcoming Republic Day, it maintained.
It also stated that the individuals were arrested at 2.30 pm and the seized items were handed over to the Heirok police station at 2.45 pm. The police had also filed a case regarding the incident for further necessary action, it added.
