Churachandpur district police have arrested two cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), a non-SoO group, involved in extortion. They were arrested around 10:50 pm Tuesday night from District Head Quarter near the Fire Brigade office.
The two were allegedly involved in extortion activity by threatening some village chiefs and since people are scared to report, the police had taken up a suo moto case.
Source from the district police said that on Tuesday, during the course of investigation of FIR No 109(07)2022 CCP PS U/S 400/384/506/34 IPC, they received information that two active members of UKNA were seen in a White Gypsy for extortion activities around Tuibong area.
A team of District Police, under the supervision of Shivanand Surve, IPS, SP Churachandpur and KH. Deshorjit Singh, Addl SP (L/O) Churachandpur, led by OC Churachandpur, Inspector N Ingocha Singh, conducted a special operation in the said area.
Following the operation, the two active members of UKNA, a non-SoO group, were arrested along with a white Gypsy from teh district HQ near the Fire Brigade office.
The two identified themselves as one Nohminthang Haokip @ Thangboi (34), son of Lunkhogin Haokip of Tongal Veng, Churachandpur and Lunminhao Haokip @ Haopu (25), son of Letmang Haokip of Henglep, A/P. B. Vengnom, Churachandpur.
During the preliminary examination, they admitted that they were working under one UKNA S/S C-In-C Thangmang. They were produced before the CJM on Wednesday for further investigation, police said.
