Two arrested, suspected heroin seized

A combined team of commando unit of Thoubal police station and volunteers of Yumkhaibam Athletic Development Association (YADA) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) arrested two drug traffickers.

Two men have been arrested and 58.54 grams of suspected heroin and a small car seized from their possession in Thoubal district Monday, sources said.

The arrest was made by a combined team of commando unit of Thoubal police station and volunteers of Yumkhaibam Athletic Development Association (YADA) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

According to police, based on an input from YADA and BJYM about the transport of heroin in a four wheeler (red Alto car) through Wangbal Sangaiyumpham road, the combined team of commando unit Thoubal police station, sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Thoubal, including women police personnel, along with volunteers of YADA and BJYM conducted vehicle frisking at Wangbal Sangaiyumpham road.

The team detained one car (Maruti Alto- NL06-2934) along with two persons namely Mayangmayum Farish Khan alias Laly, 25, son of late Sarafat and Aribam Sharir, 28, son of Md Nur Rahaman both from Sangaiyumpham Nungphou, it added.

It stated that upon body search, the police team seized five soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing 58.54 grams and one mobile phone from Farish Khan, and two mobile phones were also seized from Sharir.

After observing the respective formalities, the team apprehended the two individuals and seized the Alto car as well, it mentioned. After the two individuals as well as the seized items were handed over to the Thoubal police station, the Thoubal police filed a case under FIR No 153(9) 2022 TBL PS U/S 21(b) /29/60(3) ND&PS Act to proceed with further necessary action, it added.
