Two arms smugglers arrested

A team of district commando, Imphal West seized a 9 mm pistol along with ammunition from the arrested smugglers.

Two arms smugglers were arrested and seized a 9 mm pistol along with ammunition from their possession at Kanglatongbi Bazaar, Imphal West at around 3 pm on Saturday, police sources said.

A team of district commando, Imphal West arrested the two arm smugglers following a tipoff by 4 Assam Rifles and police sources about their presence in and around Kanglatongbi Bazaar area.

The two have been identified as Firoz Zeanlan, 56, son of late Kongou Zealan of Tokpa village, Kangpokpi district and N Disuraibu, 40, son of late N Poukengambou of 52 AC Kadi Part-1, Tamei, Tamenglong district.

On preliminary questioning, they disclosed that they were involved in smuggling of illegal arms and ammunition to different underground outfits.

They further disclosed that on Saturday morning they received one 9mm pistol from one Etao (friend of Firoz Zeanlan) and one unknown person at T Khulen, Kangpokpi district. Both came to Kanglatongbi Bazaar to hand over the said pistol to one unknown person as instructed by Etao.

Two mobile handsets, one black and blue backpack, one 9mm pistol made in the USA along with a magazine loaded with two 9mm ammunitions, one black handkerchief, one wallet along with a sum of Rs 570 and one Aadhaar card were seized from their possession.

Both the persons were arrested and the items seized at the spot. Later the arrested persons, along with the seizures, were handed over to Sekmai police station for further legal action, the police sources added.
