Condemning the authority concerned for allegedly not repairing the Tinsid Road despite repeated requests, the Tinsid Road Protection and Development Committee (TRPDC) has resolved to close down the construction work of Thoubal Dam Water Filtration Project indefinitely.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest where local residents blocked the road near Chingkhei Ching, Tinsid Road, secretary, TRPDC, L Sanjit Singh said that local clubs, organisations and women folks from around Tinsid Road have been complaining against the deteriorating condition of the road from the past many years. However, the authorities have failed to give attention till date, he said.
The condition of the road had been worsening since the construction of Thoubal Dam Water Filtration Project by Keystone Infra Private Limited. Due to the construction of the project, many heavy vehicles loaded with huge items have to ply on the road every day, he said. The weight of the vehicles ferrying the road could be beyond the permissible limit of National Highway, he remarked.
He further said that the road is now in such a deplorable condition that it has become accident prone. It is an intra-village road and around 3000 people are commuting through this road every day, he said. As such, neglecting one of the important roads of Imphal East is highly condemnable, he further said while warning that the agitation will continue until the state government assures of repairing it at earliest.
Sanjit said that the said project is progressing at a fast pace but in the name of development, the locals are being harassed.
The people are facing a lot of challenges while passing on the route as the road remains muddy during the rainy season while it is full of dusts during dry season, he added.
The people might feel that raising the issue during COVID-19 pandemic is inappropriate but the matter is being brought up by considering the challenges faced by the locals during the rainy season.
A police team of Imphal East led by additional SP arrived at the spot and took control of the protestors.
