The Karang Island Development Organisation (KIDO) has strongly condemned the transferring of the lone doctor from Karang Primary Health Centre even as the centre is facing acute shortage of health professionals.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, Imphal West on Friday, advisor of KIDO, Haobijam Gitajen, said that there is acute shortage of doctors and nurses at Karang Primary Health Centre. The centre is manned by a lone doctor but unfortunately the state government had issued a transfer order of that doctor without posting any new doctor. Thus, there are no doctors at the PHC at present, he said.
The people of Karang have been demanding for filling up the required posts of doctors and nurses in the centre but instead of fulfilling their demand, the state government transferred the doctor from their PHC and this is highly condemnable, he said.
KIDO will launch various forms of agitation if the state government fails to send required staff of their PHC at the earliest, the advisor added.
Gitajen said that being surrounded by water in all four directions, they had to endure many untold problems due to the absence of health professionals in the PHC. Moreover, now that the season is changing, people usually fall sick during such times and a PHC without doctors would only create more problems for the people, he said.
The state government should try to understand the situation and send doctors and nurses as soon as possible, he said.
