Independent candidate for Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Moirangthem Totomsana on Monday assured to take an active role in including the Meitei community in the ST list of the Indian constitution if he wins the 18th Lok Sabha election.
Totomsana gave the assurance to the members of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) at a meeting held at his residence in Heirok as a continuation of the committee meeting the candidates of the ensuing Lok Sabha election to have an idea of their thoughts on the scheduled tribe status.
He added that the only way to save the Meitei community is to include Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe list. Competition with the general category of mainland India will be tough with our little population if we continue to remain in the general category, he said.
Totomsana assured that he will include the Meitei community in the ST list within five days after the election result if he wins the election.
STDCM president Dhiraj Yumnam, general secretary K Bhogendrajit and other STDCM members were present during the meeting.
