It has been learned that the leader was planning to travel to Dimapur to seek security.

Konyak was with his family when unidentified individuals came to his residence and opened fire.

Earlier, he was a member of the NSCN (YA) but defected to NSCN (I-M). Then, he went back to NSCN (YA) and once again, joined the NSCN (I-M).

Reports said that his wife and children were in the house when he was shot.

This incident comes just 10 days after another leader of the NSCN (I-M) was allegedly killed by members of the KNA (B) on February 10 at the border town of Ongjia in Sagaing Region in Myanmar.

Following that incident, the NSCN (I-M) had accused Kuki militants KNA(B) of killing one Honpam Chithung on February 10, 2024 in Myanmar.
