The Imphal East district police have arrested three persons for allegedly forging the signature of Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a letter addressed to the director of Jawharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, Dr Bhimo Singh for consideration of some individuals in selection of JNIMS staff nurse.
The arrested persons are Nongthombam Ibomcha Singh, 47, son of late N Angoucha Singh of Pourabi Mayai Leikai, Ninghui Keishing, 66, son of Releng Keishing of Bungpa Khunou village and Khoinaijam Dijen Singh, 48, son of late Kh Kharekpa of Samaram Mayai Leikai.
Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, Jogeshchandra Haobijam told the media on Tuesday during a press conference that the three people were arrested following a report made by director of JNIMS, Dr Th Bhimo on May 29.
The report mentioned that copies of the UO (unofficial) letter carrying a forged signature of the chief minister were sent to his office on January 31, 2019 and January 17 this year for consideration of some individual during the selection of JNIMS staff, he added.
Based on the report made by Bhimo, two cases were registered at Porompat police station and the three persons were arrested in connection with the case under section 402/468/471 IPC on Monday. During interrogation, they admitted that they have committed the crime.
The police is trying to arrest other co-accused persons in connection with the case, said Imphal East SP. He appealed to the people to verify minutely if some individual give assurance to anyone for appointment in related posts at the medical institute.
The trio involved in the forgery were produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East the same day of their arrest. The court has remanded them in police custody for three days.
