Former cop Thounaojam Brinda on Monday clarified about her recorded phone call reportedly with senior journalist Yambem Laba which took place on October 3 and went viral recently.

She extended her apologies to the public for her comments and stated she would not make such claims any further.

Speaking to media at her residence in Yaiskul Janmasthan, Thounaojam expressed discontentment over the vandalism which took place when the irate mob flooded her residence on Monday evening.

“A chair which was used by Yuvraj Tikendrajit himself was also destroyed in the vandalism. The chair is a priceless historical artifact which can never be replaced,” she said.

She further tendered her apologies to the public for her erratic comments and maintained she would not commit such actions in the future.

Meanwhile, convenor of Apunba Meira Lup Takhellambam Shantibala questioned how a call which took place on October 3 went viral on the adjoining night of December 13 and 14.

“There is someone lurking in the shadows and pulling the strings and intentionally wreaking havoc among the masses. It is time to investigate who that person is,” she said. She demanded authorities to apprehend the culprit who is maliciously poking the sentiment of the people and trying to disintegrate the masses.

She stated that a local meeting was convened earlier on Sunday in which Brinda’s case was discussed and resolved. The locals had resolved to make Brinda publicly clarify and take further necessary punishments, she added. She pointed out that the whole debacle took place a day after the locality’s resolution.

“All those who were hurt by Brinda’s comments could have come and had a table discussion but instead the unfortunate incident occurred,” she said.

The incident took place on Sunday evening where several irate Torbung residents flooded the residence of Thounaojam Brinda, demanding a public apology over her alleged baseless accusations.

Her residence was vandalised by the irate mob which included representatives of Torbung United Club and Meira Paibis. State forces with several top officials of the department rushed in swiftly to prevent further escalation of the situation.

The Meira Paibis and clubs of Yaiskul have requested for a public apology from her by 12 O clock of Tuesday, as per sources. The mob later on had a discussion with the club representatives of Brinda’s locality in Yaiskul Janmasthan.

The meeting resolved to banish Brinda out of the locality if she fails to publicly clarify her actions. During the meeting, the Torbung locals expressed their discontentment over Brinda’s alleged irresponsible narrative about the eruption of the whole conflict on May 3, 2023.

“We feel deeply hurt when such a prominent figure makes such baseless claims. We lost our home, our sons, our daughters on that day. Was she there when the whole incident erupted?” questioned one villager during the meeting.
