The 10th death anniversary of Sintakpurel L Heramot was commemorated on Thursday along with the 1st State Level Sintakpurel L Heramot Ningshing Spot Thang-Ta Painting Competition at Kongpal Chanam Leikai in Imphal East. It was organised by Kanglei Enat Thang-Ta Shindam Sanglen (KETTSS).
Paying of floral tribute to Sintakpurel L Heramot and presentation of different Thang-Ta forms by students of various Thang-Ta schools marked the opening ceremony of the observance.
Speaking to the media secretary of KETTSS Manisana Ningthemcha said that the painting competition was organised to encourage the spirit of Thang-Ta, the indigenous martial arts of Manipur to the younger generation.
Stating that Thanga-Ta is being considered as a sport as well as culture, he said that the motive of the competition is to also bring Thang-ta in the arts category.
Besides drawing is one of the key component in writing a book about the practice of Thanga-ta, he said while citing the difficulties faced by the late Sintakpurel L Heramot while documenting his book “Thanghairol” in drawing the different forms and steps of Thang-Ta.
As many as 120 students participated in the painting competition which was organised in two categories (Class V to VII and class VIII to X) under the theme, “Thang-Ta na ekhoige thawai mirel ni (roughly translates as Thang-Ta is our soul and shadow)”.
It was attended by ZP of Top Naoriya Ksh Tama Devi as chief guest; pradhan of Top Naoria M Dinachandra, retired head master M Jhulon, state awardee L Ibocha Khuman, secretary of KCDO Ch Dhanabir and social worker W Guni Leima as guests of honour while president of KETTSS Th Birachandra presided it.
