The People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM) on Tuesday commended the declarations made during the Thadou Convention 2024 in Guwahati on Saturday, stating that the resolutions stand as a monumental affirmation of the Thadou community’s unwavering dedication to preserving its distinct identity, culture and heritage, showcasing its resilience and unity in the face of historical challenges.
The declaration not only defends the dignity of the Thadou identity but also strengthens the cultural and historical integrity of Manipur’s diverse ethnic landscape, stated a release issued by PAPPM president M Bobby Meetei.
It asserts the Thadou identity as a separate and sovereign cultural entity from the Kukis by rejecting imposed identities and clarifying the distinctions of the Thadou people, it stated.
It acknowledged Thadou community’s firm stance against misrepresentation, appropriation, and acts that undermine its identity. The call for accurate and respectful recognition, devoid of politically motivated impositions, reflects a deeply rooted principle of self-determination and respect, it noted.
It further lauded the convention’s condemnation of violence, human rights abuses, and divisive agendas powerfully advocate for human dignity and non-violent resolutions. The steadfast dedication to achieving a future grounded in peace, justice, and equal representation aligns with Manipur’s collective aspirations for harmony, it maintained.
It also emphasised the peace-building efforts undertaken by Thadou Community International (TCI) in Jiribam, stating that the collaboration with representatives from various communities, including the Meitei, Hmar, Thadou, Paite, and Mizo, reinforces the shared belief in a unified Manipur.
It supported TCI’s endorsement of safe and dignified resettlement for displaced residents underlining a commitment to justice, safety and solidarity. It further commended the Thadou community for its recent open letter to Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the public, dated August 8, which reflected the resilience and empathy of the Thadou people and reaffirms a vision for a peaceful, inclusive future.
PAPPM stands in full solidarity with the Thadou community, honour and support their enduring commitment to peace, cultural integrity and the rightful acknowledgement of their identity, the release added. It also wished that the declarations and efforts inspire harmony, equity, and understanding among all communities in the state.
